At the end of a long day at work, as Cyndi Lauper says, “girls just want to have fun.”
Where do they go? Level 8 at Hotel Duval.
Young professional women have a found a refuge at Level 8 on Wednesday nights, home to the weekly Little Black Dress Night.
Alex Dossey, Level 8 manager, said the event is just a creative way of saying “ladies night,” and it’s been a big hit — not only for the ladies, but for gents of all ages, too.
“I see lots of different crowds in here,” he said. “Right after work I see a lot of young professionals and attorneys. People love being eight floors above the capital city, where the atmosphere has been seductive and chic, attracting a lot of singles.”
The venue gives each guest a little taste of New York City with its patio area overlooking the city lights, the latest pop tunes playing at medium outdoor volume and drink specials that include free champagne, two-for-one martinis and house wines. The conversations are casual, ranging from troubles at work, who has the worst boss, annoying co-workers, politics, relationships and Facebook.
Morgan Mathis, hair stylist at the The Space, said she and her friends were looking for something outside the box; she plans to come every Wednesday night.
“I’m over the whole ‘get wasted on the strip,’ ” she said. “I really enjoy the atmosphere created by the people who come here.
“There’s finally a place for young professionals to go hang out and have a conversation, versus having to go to a place on the strip with loud music and smoke everywhere.”
